Updated Canada Travel Requirements

Canada has updated many of its travel requirements to enhance COVID safety protocols. Travel policies and requirements are frequently changed as more information is available. It's important for travellers to be informed, prepared and to stay flexible when travelling, especially as more borders are opening up and people are beginning to travel more for work, for family, for school and going into the busy holiday season.

  • Mandatory Vaccination to Board Flights in Canada
Canada requires mandatory vaccination to board flights, trains and cruise ships in Canada starting October 30. There is a transition period from October 30 to November 29, when travellers who don’t yet qualify as fully vaccinated will be able to travel if they can show a valid COVID-19 molecular test taken within 72 hours of travel.
  • Proof Of Negative Test Result
All travellers 5 years of age or older must provide proof of a COVID-19 negative molecular test result to enter Canada, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status If you're flying to Canada, you must take a molecular test within 72 hours of the scheduled departure time of your flight to Canada.
  • Transit Through Canada By Air
You may be permitted to transit through Canada to reach another country if you arrive and depart from the same Canadian airport within 24 hours. Domestic transfers are not permitted. You are exempt from testing and quarantine requirements, as long as you remain in the secure transit area to complete your connection within 24 hours. If you need to leave the airport or the secure transit area due to a flight cancellation or delay, you become subject to mandatory quarantine until your flight departs.
  • Connecting Flights Before Arrival in Canada
COVID tests must be conducted within 72 hours of the scheduled departure time of your last direct flight to Canada.
  • AHS COVID Passport with QR Code
The Alberta Health Services has rolled out a watermarked vaccine passport and QR code, the QR code cannot be used until the app is released.
