Canada Issues 5,956 ITAs in Latest Express Entry Draw

On May 31, 2021, the Government of Canada conducted the 2nd largest Express Entry draw of 2021, issuing 5,956 ITAs to candidates to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence. IRCC issued Invitations To Apply (ITAs) to candidates with a Comprehensive Ranking System Score of at least 380 to candidates already working and living in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Due to COVID travel restrictions that are in place, Canada is prioritizing candidates who are already living in Canada. Canada's Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023 plans to increase immigration to Canada over the coming three years. IRCC will welcome over 400,000 immigrant newcomers per year beginning in 2021:

  • 2021: 401,000
  • 2022: 411,000
  • 2023: 421,000

In January - May 2021, IRCC has invited 74,773 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence. On Saturday, February 13, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) held the largest Express Entry draw in history and issued invitations for 27,332 people: five times the previous high of 5,000 for promising skilled workers who already live in the country.

11 Ways to Increase Your Express Entry CRS Score

Immigration candidates are ranked against other candidates using a point-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System. Points are awarded using the information in their profile about their qualification to move to Canada. When Canada holds an Express Entry draw, candidates with the highest scores in the pool will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

What Is Canada's Express Entry System?

Express Entry was launched by the Canadian Government in 2015 as a way to choose skilled immigrants as Permanent Residents to Canada based on their ability to successfully settle in Canada.

Express Entry is used to manage applications for Permanent Residence under three federal economic immigration programs:

Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry system through their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) to meet local labour market needs.
