Meet Maria Lourdes Atencio, Administrative Assistant at Ackah Business Immigration Law:
Maria came from Venezuela where she was a former student of Law at Universidad Catolica Andres Bello (UCAB). She is motivated to be part of the Ackah Business Immigration Law team as an Administrative Assistant bringing her passion for service, justice and immigration. Maria and Ackah Law were matched through a program with Immigrant Services Calgary that helps new immigrants gain Canadian experience and skills.
Since moving to Canada, Maria has joined the Youth Inclusive Program of Immigrant Services of Calgary where she volunteers and in the near future wants to complete her studies towards law. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching movies spending time with her family and friends, eating and watching movies.

Maria's first language is Spanish and she is also fluent in English. Q&A with Maria Lourdes Atencio, Administrative Assistant
1. Why did you become an administrative assistant?
I wanted to work in a law office because I am working towards my career goal of becoming a lawyer and it will help me gain valuable experience. In order to achieve my goal, I need to be exposed to lawyers and legal clients. I also have gained familiarity with legal documents and terminology as well as valuable knowledge doing research, which is something I really enjoy. Working at Ackah Law is very fulfilling as I have the opportunity to help transform the lives of our clients.
2. What would you like to see change in immigration law?
I hope that immigration law becomes more transparent and much more straightforward in the future, It is so complicated currently, which is why it is advantageous to use an experienced lawyer since they have insight into immigration regulations and laws that will help improve the chances of success.
3. Why immigration law?
I know first-hand the hurdles that a new immigrant encounters when moving to a new country. I am originally from Venezuela. I know personally see how the opportunity to immigrate to Canada can change your life and allow you to pursue your dreams. I feel very privileged to be in Canada and working towards my goals.
