Updates to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)

Updates to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)

Alberta has seen a surge in interest from qualified individuals seeking to immigrate and contribute to our vibrant economy. While this is fantastic news, it also means the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) needs to strategically manage its allocation of nominations to best serve Alberta's economic needs across various sectors. Earlier this year, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program paused the program after experiencing extremely high demand. AAIP is part of Canada's Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

To address this and ensure a fair chance for everyone, the AAIP has implemented a new application process for the following streams, effective June 11th, 2024:

  • Alberta Opportunity Stream
  • Rural Renewal Stream
  • Accelerated Tech Pathway (great news for our tech folks!)
  • Tourism and Hospitality Stream

The big change: These streams will now accept applications on a monthly basis. This means multiple opportunities to apply throughout the year, instead of a one-time application window.

New AAIP Guidelines

  • Each month, the AAIP will establish a specific number of applications it can accept for each stream (application targets).
  • Applications will be accepted on designated dates, starting June 11th, 2024. Make sure to check the official AAIP website (Alberta.ca) for the upcoming application information.
    • Applications will be accepted monthly on the following dates:
      June 11, July 9, August 13, September 10, October 8, November 5 and December 10, 2024
    • You should apply as early as possible on those dates. There is high demand for these programs and intake will only be open until each application intake limit is filled.
  • Once the monthly target is reached for a particular stream, applications will close until the next designated date.

The good news? The eligibility criteria for these streams remain the same. Processing times will also be available on the AAIP website, so you can plan accordingly.

This new approach provides a more flexible and accessible application process for all – with multiple chances to apply throughout the year. So, if you've been dreaming of a life in Alberta, be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming application dates and get those applications ready!

Remember, immigration law can be complex. If you have any questions about your eligibility or the application process, feel free to contact Ackah Business Immigration Law for a consultation.

AAIP 2024 Allocations

Canada's federal government allocated 9,750 PNP nominations to Alberta for 2024:

  • Alberta Opportunity Stream: 5,393 nominations in 2024
  • Express Entry Stream: 1,775 nominations in 2024
  • Rural Renewal Stream: 1,900 nominations in 2024
  • Tourism and Hospitality Stream: 660 nominations in 2024

Evelyn, Thank you and your team very much for handling my PR Application Process. It is a pleasure working with you and thanks for always getting back to me so fast. Hopefully this is the last time and when next time is around we are rather handling paperwork for my Canadian Citizenship.
