Alex studied design and photography at Ryerson. He spent most of his time and money on bicycles, which led to a new career as a successful bicycle retailer. Later, he re-entered the world of design and spent most of his time and money on wonderful new digital tools. This led to another successful career: helping agencies and clients make the transition to digital.
Alex and his wife Valerie, who was then the editor of Calgary's Best Arts and Entertainment magazine, established Signal Creative. Alex provided design, production, and consulting services and Valerie provided writing, editing, and project management. After a few years, Alex jumped ship from Signal to his favorite client Karo Group, a leading Canadian multi-disciplinary agency. As a partner, director of technology, and digital team lead, he enjoyed working and learning with talented colleagues and a broad range of small and large organizations on their digital communications.
In 2014 Alex again jumped ship back to Signal, where he provides web consulting to a small select group of clients. Signal manages Ackah Law's websites and other digital tools, and helps new employees with training and documentation.
Signal also provides pro-bono web support to the wonderful people at Calgary Folk Music Festival, the Calgary Society of Independent Film Makers, and the Calgary Beekeepers Association.
