PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM
Manitoba’s Minister of Education and Training, Ian Wishart, announced on November 15th that an agreement has been reached with the federal government to restructure the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program. The changes are meant to make the economic provincial program more user friendly and create new pathways to permanent residence.
UPDATES TO CANADIAN IMMIGRATION POLICY
On November 1, 2017 the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, announced ambitious new targets for Canadian immigration over the next three years, with a particular emphasis on economic immigration. The multi-year plan sets a target of over 1 million immigrants by 2020.
NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR JOB ADVERTISING
Before applying for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (“LMIA”) in a low wage position, you must conduct at least three different varieties of advertising. As of August 28, 2017, the requirements include a mandatory posting on the Government of Canada’s Job Bank website, and at least two additional recruitment methods that target specific groups.
