CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP
Minors now have an incentive to apply for Canadian citizenship: on February 16, 2018 the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced changes to the fee schedule set out in the Citizenship Regulations to lower the processing fees for minors applying under subsection 5(1) of the Citizenship Act from $530 to $100.
CANADIAN PERMANENT RESIDENCY
A new report released by Statistics Canada, “How Temporary Were Canada’s Temporary Foreign Workers”, shows that the number of temporary foreign workers (TFW) who become Canadian permanent residents is on the rise. The report studied TFWs who came to Canada through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and the International Mobility Program, (IMP).
CANADIAN IMMIGRATION BUDGET INCREASE
The federal government is committed to increase immigration levels over the next three years and has allocated $440 million to ensure this multi-year immigration plan is successful. Canada is committed to increase the overall admission target of 310,000 in 2018 to 340,000 in 2020. These numbers represent the highest admissions to Canada in more than 100 years.
