Roller Coaster in Express Entry Invitation to Apply

20 February 2018

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for Express Entry Invitation to Apply (ITA) has been a roller coaster in recent months.

Candidates who meet the Express Entry eligibility requirements may be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence under the program.

The ITA is an auto-generated correspondence issued to Express Entry candidates who rank the highest in a round of invitations through their online portal based on their CRS score. Provincial or Territorial Nominated candidates are awarded an additional 600 points in the CRS and are normally invited to apply at the next round of ITAs for which they qualify. This system automatically invites candidates to apply under one of the classes in the following order:

  • Provincial Nominee Class
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Worker Class; and
  • Federal Skilled Trades Class.

The February 7, 2018, Ministerial Instructions respecting ITA for permanent residence under the Express Entry system, indicates that 3,000 Express Entry candidates with a minimum CRS score of 442 were invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence, which represents an increase of 250 compared to the previous draws where the number of ITAs issued were 2,750.

On January 24, 2018, 2,750 Express Entry candidates with a minimum CRS score of 444 were issued an ITA to apply for Canadian permanent residence. This is lower than the January 10, 2018, that had a minimum CRS score of 446. That is a reduction of two points and a further reduction of two points on the February 7, 2018 draw.
