Evelyn Ackah to Speak at Toronto International Film Festival

Toronto Immigration lawyer Evelyn Ackah will present at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Industry Conference Foundations programme on the subject of U.S./Canadian legal co-ventures and collabourative teams. The six-day conference, which runs September 8–13, will "incite provocative discussions and inspire innovative strategies for creative and business leadership."

The topic for Ms. Ackah's presentation is Border Patrol with co-presenters Lorraine D'Alessio and Elliott Anderson:

With NAFTA under negotiation, U.S. and Canadian producers face new challenges. How do politics impact our industry, productions, and sustainability? This in–depth philosophical and practical session focuses on immigration law, freedom of movement, and the legal implications for co–ventures for U.S./Canada productions under the new U.S. Administration. Border Patrol informs filmmakers how best to prepare their productions and team amidst political uncertainty.

TIFF is dedicated to presenting the best of international and Canadian cinema to film lovers. What began as the Festival of Festivals over 40 years ago, has become the world’s most important publicly attended film festival and grown to embrace programming 365 days a year.

The 2017 programme explores cinematography, editing, story development, music licensing, U.S./Canadian legal co-ventures and collabourative teams; the lineup features:

  • Pat Mills, Tiffany Beaudin (Don’t Talk To Irene)
  • Caroline Habib, Mongrel International
  • Kisha Imani Cameron, Ghetto Film School
  • Lorraine D’Alessio, D’Alessio Law Group
  • Evelyn Ackah, Ackah Business Immigration Law
  • Elliott Anderson (ACTRA)
  • Michael Perlmutter, President of CDN Guild of Music Supervisors
  • script consultant Corey Mandell

TIFF '17 explores the power of storytelling along with themes and challenges that have made a global impact on the film industry.
