Canada Immigration's Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) has announced the names of the selected 10,000 applicants who can apply to sponsor their parents or grandparents as Canada permanent residents.
In December, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced 2017 PGP program changes:
those wanting to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada will now have 30 days to fill out an online form to indicate their interest. IRCC will then randomly choose 10,000 individuals from those who filled out the form, and those people will be invited to send in their complete application package.
The online form was available starting January 3 - February 2, 2017; sponsors had 30 days to submit the form.
On April 25, 2017, IRCC announced the randomly selected 10,000 individuals who are invited to submit a PGP sponsorship application. Everyone who submitted an online form will be notified whether they have been selected or not. According to IRCC, "Interested sponsors who are not selected will be able to indicate their interest to apply again in 2018."
In addition to changing the PGP application process in 2017, IRCC doubled the number of parental sponsorship applications from 5,000 to 10,000; sponsor income and eligibility requirements did not change.
